The holidays are a happy yet busy time of year, and it can be easy to put your health low on the to-do list. But don’t let your dental health slip! Gift yourself some self care this holiday season, and follow these 8 Holiday Dental Health Tips:

  1. Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
  2. Drink plenty of water throughout your day.
  3. Consume high-sugar foods in moderation.
  4. Avoid very sticky or hard foods—like taffy and candied nuts—that can break teeth, fillings, crowns, or dentures.
  5. If you sip acidic holiday drinks like apple cider or cocktails, be sure to rinse your mouth with water often.
  6. If you can’t brush after a big holiday meal, swish with water and chew sugar-free gum.
  7. Never use your teeth for opening bottles or presents.
  8. Maintain your regular oral hygiene habits even with late nights or hectic schedules—floss and brush for two minutes twice a day.

It’s also wise to prioritize your sleep, and to find ways to be active every day. Your mind, body, teeth, and gums will thank you!

And if something goes wrong or you feel due for a cleaning? Don’t hesitate to reach out to our office located in Beaverton near Murray Boulevard and Scholls Ferry Road. Dr. Doug Shafer and the Good Life Team are here to help you.

Happy Holidays!
