Take Full Advantage of Your Dental Benefits

Jun 16 • 1 minute read

Many employers provide dental insurance plans for their employees, but so often people fail to take full advantage of their dental benefits! Here are a few tips from our Portland-area dental office to maximize your benefits:

1. Cleanings are Often 100% Covered by Dental Insurance

Many dental insurance plans cover 100% of preventative care. That means your twice-a-year cleanings, exams, and x-rays are already paid for! And consistent preventative care helps prevents large, expensive problems down the road. Just be careful to schedule your cleanings six months or more apart (the more exact the better!). If you schedule it less than 6 months, your dental insurance may consider it too soon and not cover it!

2. See the Dentist Regularly to Avoid More Expensive Fixes

It's common for simpler dental procedures--like fillings--to be covered almost completely by your dental insurance, while more expensive fixes--like dental crowns--might only be covered 50%. That means it pays to be seen regularly by your dentist and to catch problems while they're small. (But if you need a crown, we can minimize the time you need to take off from work with our single-visit dental crowns! One appointment, no temporary crowns needed.)

3. Use Up Your Full Benefits Each Year, Because They Likely Won't Carry Over

Unused benefits usually do NOT carry over from one year to the next. That means you should maximize and use up all your benefits in one calendar year. Thousands of dollars can be left unused and untouched! Check with your insurance provider, but most insurance benefits end on December 31 and start fresh on January 1.

Don’t let your money and benefits go to waste. Take full advantage and schedule your next cleaning now! Dr. Shafer and Beaverton Dental Team are ready to serve you. Your smile will thank you!
