Why You Need to Visit the Dentist Every 6 Months

Jan 11 • 1 minute read

It can be easy to put off visiting the dentist. But like all of healthcare, in dentistry, prevention is better than any cure!

Dr. Shafer and the Good Life Team recommend scheduling a dental check-up every 6 months. This is different than an appointment for dental treatment, like a filling or a crown. At a dental check-up we will provide a professional cleaning by our licensed dental hygienists and perform a thorough exam of your mouth, teeth, and gums, looking for signs of decay, inflammation, or cancer. We will also address any pain you've been experiencing, answer questions, and educate you on how to best care for your teeth.

Regular visits like these will help you feel your best. There are many benefits to your overall health, including:

  • Preventing Plaque: Plaque is a sticky deposit that clings to your teeth and gum line and is full of harmful bacteria. When it builds up, it can stain your teeth, and cause decay and gum disease. We will remove this plaque with precision and skill at your appointment.

  • Preventing Tooth Decay: When you visit us every 6 months, it is much easier to identify decay before it's a big problem. When decay is small, it's easy to fix. When it's large, it will be a much more costly repair--you may need a root canal, a crown, or even a loss of your teeth.

  • Stop Gum Disease: If gum disease is caught early, we can help it from becoming a serious problem. If left untreated, it can cause pain, swelling, bone loss, tooth loss, and evenbelieve it or notheart disease.

  • Brighten Your Smile: Your teeth will remain whiter and cleaner with regular visits. We can also catch tooth movement before it gets worse, and offer your solutions and treatments to give you the smile you want.

  • Saving Money: Catching problems early will always cost you less than waiting until it's a serious problem. Preventative visits and cleanings will help you avoid major, painful, expensive issues with your teeth.

Practice some self care and do what's best for your teethvisit the dentist every 6 months. Your smile will thank you.
